Battery Exchange Program
Gateway has identified that certain lithium-ion batteries manufactured by Sony Energy Devices Corp. can potentially overheat under rare circumstances. While Gateway has not identified any failures of this type in Gateway systems using these batteries, the company is cooperating with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Sony to act in the interest of customer safety by initiating a voluntary recall of all affected batteries. Gateway notebook PCs with these batteries began shipping in September 2005. They were primarily sold in the U.S., with limited quantities sold in Canada, Japan and the U.K. Gateway is offering free replacement batteries for customers who purchased notebooks with affected batteries.
