Privacy Statement
Gateway respects your right to privacy. We hold your detailed customer information in confidence. This policy is intended to inform you how we gather, define and use personal information held by Gateway and its affiliated brands, including eMachines, that is collected via the Site such as your name, address, telephone number and e-mail address ("Information").

Information Collection
Gateway may sometimes ask you for Information, for example, when you request any information about us or our services, submit your contact details, or complete any forms on the Site.

We may also collect and process the following information:
  • Information about your computer, including where available, your IP address operating system and browser type;
  • Details of your visits to the Site and the pages and resources you access.

We will use your Information in accordance with the terms of this Privacy Statement. If you prefer not to be contacted you can follow the unsubscribe instructions in the relevant correspondence or advise Gateway of your Communications Preferences by emailing: privacy@gateway.com.

All your Information will be used in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 (the "Act"). Gateway, Inc. is the data controller of your Information for the purpose of the Act. If you want to know what information we collect and hold about you or wish to receive a copy of the personal information held on you, please email us at privacy@gateway.com. There is a fee of £10 to receive a copy of the personal information held on you by Gateway.

Protection of Information
The transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Whilst we will do our best to protect your Information, we cannot ensure the security of Information transmitted to the Site. Any transmission of your Information via the Site is at your own risk. Once we have received your Information we will use strict procedures and security features to prevent unauthorised access. Those steps include limiting access to customer information databases and communicating this Privacy Statement to all Gateway employees. Additionally, Gateway annually certifies itself to the U.S. Department of Commerce Safe Harbor programme and ensures its adherence to the Safe Harbor's standards for privacy protection. Gateway will not sell, rent, or give away your Information to other companies for use in selling others' products or services except where we contract with another company to market or advertise Gateway's products or services on our behalf. In such circumstances we will insist on binding agreements from those companies protecting your Information.

Use of your Information
Gateway gathers your Information so we can improve our relationship with you. Occasionally, we seek customer comments on our products and services. These comments allow us to determine which products and services our customers should be made aware of based on their specific needs.

We may:
  • Proactively communicate with customers via e-mail or other online delivery devices to provide offers and information we think will be of interest customers who no longer desire to receive these communications should inform us and we will remove those customers' names from our mailing lists.
  • Contact you in response to any general or specific queries made by you;
  • Use your Information to automate certain functions on the Site;
  • Ensure content on the Site is presented in the most effective manner for you and your computer.

Gateway takes the use of e-mail and paper mail to communicate with customers seriously. We will, at all times, put ourselves in the place of the recipients of our mail and treat our customers as we ourselves would itself like to be treated.

This Site may share usage information about site visitors with reputable third-party companies for the purpose of targeting our Internet banner advertisements on this Site and other sites as well as for gathering aggregate information about site traffic and usage. For these purposes, we and our third-party companies note some of the pages you visit on the Site through the use of pixel tags (also called clear gifs). The information collected by our third-party advertisers through the use of these pixel tags is not personally identifiable. Some of the information collected by our third-party analytics provider on our behalf may be personally identifiable; however, our provider is contractually precluded from selling, licensing or conveying any such information to any third party or from using that information in any way outside Gateway's own privacy policy.

Disclosing Your Information to Third Parties
We may also disclose your Information to third parties in the following circumstances:
  • if we sell or buy any business or assets, in which case we may disclose your personal data to the buyer or seller of such business or assets;
  • In circumstances where a third party provides services on behalf of Gateway and agrees to maintain the confidentiality of the data and use it for no other purpose than to provide such services.
  • When you receive services directly from a third party, such as a shipping company, financing provider or internet service provider. In such case, your personal information is treated in accordance with that service provider's privacy policy even though you may have purchased the services through Gateway.
  • Where required by law.

Notification of Changes
If Gateway decides to change this Privacy Statement substantively, we will post those changes to this Privacy Statement, the homepage, and other places we deem appropriate so users are aware of what Information we collect, how it is used, and under what circumstances, if any, it is disclosed.

Cookies
Gateway currently uses "cookies" on the Site. Cookies tag each visitor's browser with a random, unique number. The cookie simply assigns a number and does not disclose any personal Information about the person using the browser.
